A Message from Lew Lowery, Superintendent

Mr. Lowery

Welcome to Mathews Local Schools.

Our staff places the well-being of our students above all else.  Our primary purpose is the task of developing in our students the characteristics, actions, interests and attitudes necessary to become productive citizens in a democracy. Every effort is made to provide for the varied needs of our students.  To that end, we believe that all children can learn, and we work to  encourage all learners to increase their level of achievement through quality instruction and technology. In addition, we encourage the interaction of our parents and we urge parents to become involved in the school lives of their children.

New Medical Requirement for Grades 7 and 12

New Ohio Department of Health immunization requirements for the 2016-2017 school year affecting students in Grades 7 and 12!

All 7th grade students must have received either a Tdap or a Td booster shot. This requirement has been in effect since the 2010-2011 school year.

Beginning with the start of the 2016-2017 school year, all pupils entering the 7th and 12th grade are required to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease. One (1) dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 7th grade.

A second (2nd) dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 12th grade. The second (2nd) dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday with at least eight weeks between the first and second dose. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.

The school will need proof in writing that your child has been immunized with these vaccines by August 2016. Failure to do so is cause for exclusion from school . If you have any questions please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Guarnieri.
