A Message from Russell McQuaide, Superintendent

It is a privilege to serve the educational needs of the Mathews Community. The mission ofour school district is to make a difference every day in the lives of our students. Although it seems as if children grow too quickly, every day is a significant incremental contribution to their development. That is why we cannot waste a minute! Although Mathews teachers and staff are excellent, we understand that parents are the first and best teachers of their children. This is important to note, because we need your help in taking care of their needs. If parents and school personnel work together as a team, we can make a difference every day in the lives of our students!

Medical Requirement

The Ohio Department of Health has the following requirements for students in Grades 7 and 12 for the 2018-2019 school year:

  • All 7th grade students must have received either a Tdap or a Td booster shot. This requirement has been in effect since the 2010-2011 school year.
  • All pupils entering the 7th and 12th grade are required to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease. This requirement has been in effect since the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
  • One (1) dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 7th grade.
  • A second (2nd) dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 12th grade. A second (2nd) dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday with at least eight weeks between the first and second dose. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second one is not required.

The school will need proof in writing that your child has been immunized with these vaccines by August 2018. Failure to do so is cause for exclusion from school. If you have any further questions please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Guarnieri.
